Fuel economy converters

US MPG and liters per 100 km are reciprocal measures; zero requires special handling. Choose an exact direction below, or open the universal converter for all compatible units.

Understanding fuel economy

Fuel efficiency and consumption are reciprocals

US miles per gallon expresses distance per volume; liters per 100 kilometers expresses volume per distance. The relationship is reciprocal, so you cannot convert with one fixed multiplier.

How to verify a conversion

Zero and negative fuel-economy inputs do not yield a finite reciprocal conversion. Imperial MPG is different from US MPG.

Accurate calculations, no guesswork

Every converter uses consistent unit definitions and returns an interactive result you can verify. For multiple measurements, use the batch converter.
